All files stored in Flywheel have corresponding metadata such as upload timestamp, file version, and file type. Metadata has many useful applications in Flywheel including being used to properly categorize data, create collections, or curate a data view. Custom metadata gives you more control over the metadata associate with a project, subject, session, or acquisition. Custom metadata is indexed and searchable just like any of the default metadata fields
This article describes how to add custom metadata to an acquisition, session, subject, or project.
Acquisition metadata
Navigate to the acquisition you want to add the custom metadata to

Select the options menu
next to the acquisition, and choose Information.
To edit metadata, click on the key or value.
To add new metadata, click + next to Custom Information.

Choose a data type:
String: Value is text
Boolean: Value is true or false
Array: Value is a list of different datatypes
Number: Value is a number
Object: Value can be any data type or combination of data types
Enter a key and value.

Once you have added all of your custom metadata, click Save.
The custom metadata is now associated with the acquisition. Create a collection, data view, or search query based on the new field.
Select the Subject or Session tab in the project.
Under the Custom Information section click on the key or value to edit it.
To add new metadata, click + next to Custom Information.

Enter a key and value.
Once you have added all of your custom metadata, click Save.

From the Projects page, select the options menu
next to the project.
Choose Information.
Under the Custom Information section click on the key or value to edit it.
To add new metadata, click + next to Custom Information.
