Downloading Sessions or Acquisitions from the Web UI

Download selected sessions or acquisitions from a project directly to your computer as a ZIP archive. This is best for small batches of data. To export large volumes, see the tip below.

Download selected sessions or acquisitions

When viewing a project:

  1. Select the sessions or acquisitions you want to download.
  2. Click the Actions menu.
  3. Select Download.

The Select File Types to Download dialog appears. It lists each file type in your selection, such as dicom, nifti, bval, bvec, and qa, along with the number of files and total size for each type.

  • Select the checkbox for each file type you want to include.
  • Use the Select: All or None links to toggle every type at once.
  • The running count of selected files and their combined size appears at the bottom of the dialog.

Selecting sessions and choosing file types to download

Click Download. Flywheel packages the selected files into a ZIP archive and downloads it through your browser. You can track the progress in your browser's downloads area.

Downloading large amounts of data

Small batch download is intended for a few sessions or acquisitions. For large projects, use Bulk Export or the fw sync command instead.

What the archive contains

After you extract the ZIP archive, the folder structure reproduces the Flywheel hierarchy (Group → Project → Subject → Session → Acquisition). DICOM files remain packaged as <filename>.dcm.zip, just as they are stored in Flywheel. See Unzipping dcm.zip in a Downloaded Flywheel Project if you need to unpack them.
